CANS 2011 – One Network – One World
August 8, 9, 10, 2011 (Mon–Wed)
Kunming, Yunnan Province, China
CANS continues its focus on working together to promote interoperability and seamless networking—and seamless collaboration in research and education. This year's symposium will cover topics in advanced network technologies, deployment, interoperability and management; middleware and security-related issues; integration of new technologies into the network to support new research and education opportunities; and new advanced applications and evolving "applications view" of networks. An addition this year will be sessions bringing together U.S. CIOs with their Chinese counterparts on university technology organization and management, and how to support remote education and "campus abroad."
Speakers and program details and presentations have been posted.
CANS Objectives
Since 1999, top leaders in networking and applications research and development from China and United States gather annually at the Chinese-American Networking Symposium (CANS) to exchange information and experience, discuss new ideas and advancements in networking technologies and research applications, and to and promote partnerships between American and Chinese educational and research institutions, and the private sector. Alternately held in the USA and China, the programs include presentations by networking experts and disciplinary researchers, panel discussions, and executive and technical breakout sessions.

Venue and Accommodations
CANS 2011 will be hosted by CERNET and Yunnan University near the CERNET PoP in Kunming, China. Kunming is capital of the Yunnan Province in the southwestern part of China, and is known as the "City of Eternal Spring" due to its year-round mild and pleasant spring-like climate. Kunming is also known for its flower market, sumptuous noodles and the picturesque Stone Forest, with its impressive limestone columns that over the years have formed surreal shapes and images.
The conference will be held at the Green Lake Hotel Kunming, one of the best hotels in Kunming, known as "The Eyes of Kunming." It has a terrific location in the center of downtown, across from Green Lake.
A room block at the hotel is being held at a special discount rate. To reserve a room at the discounted rate, please fill out and return the hotel reservation form (PDF).
